State of chaos
My 2 1/3'' Mosquitofish (AKA Bear) is hiding in the castle for a week now. but if its dark in my room, she comes out. (Or if I poke the castle.) is she afraid of her reflection in the glass or afraid of trying to get thru the glass into my dresser? (I removed the gravel, I couldnt clean it.) I turned the castle on its side so it's like a cave so I can see her. Should I go out and get gravel? (I had a stock of gravel in a pitcher with some tank water, but i started dipping the nets in there after netting out food and every time I moved it, all kinds of crap got kicked up and it STUNK. Like rotten eggs. I couldnt clean it without revisiting my dinner, so I trashed it.
Advice??

Skeeters are schoolers. She'll feel better and act braver with more of her own kind around her. They also like lots of vegetation.

okay misquito fish are generaly quite audacios also the bad smell and rotten junk may be due to your habit of over feeding(refering to your thread of moutan minnows).

I'm one of the minority that likes the look of a barebottom tank. However, have you tried using a gravel vac to get all the gunk and detritus out of the substrate?

or for those who want less of a chore,

I have a gravel vac/syphon, but with gravel obscuring some crap, I always missed some.

Theyre actually territorial, and usually bully eachother. There is 1 more in the tank.

They're in different tanks, I tried once to put Minnows with the Affins. The equal-0sized Minnows almost turned into feeders:screwy:

They act like bullies in small numbers or stressful situations. In the wild you don't see two mosquitofish, you see dozens or hundreds, segregated by size. Treat them like tiger barbs.

I keep them in backyard 40 gallon pond but they sell them in some areas as food.

We can start our own fried mosquito fish take out service . They actually arent bad at all.
A pint cost only couple dollars .
