Is my Tire track (favus) lazy or sick? About 9-10" now, had since 5", has always eaten well and still does. Problem is he has always just hung out in one spot waiting to get fed and makes very little effort to get food I don't drop in front of him. I thought it was maybe because he was small but his laziness has not changed with size. Is this normal for a favus tt?

I once Had an armatus tt in the past and he was plain aggressive about eating, would grab worms from the surface out of my hand and beg whenever I got close to the tank. Was a little the same until it hit 6-7" then it was on.

135g tank + 40g sump and xp4, Water tests great, minimum 30% changes weekly. No real competing or overly aggressive tank mates. He did the same thing in the 29 I had him in alone before. I was hoping the bigger tank some other fish would make him put in some effort. May try starving him out a bit, maybe I made life to easy.

Any thought s or similar experiences with the favus tt? A little worried about health but he looks good and is growing 1"+ per month.

All I want to know is if I should just let it ride or if anyone thinks I should be concerned and do something.

I have 2 tire tracks. The larger of the 2 is lazy and I often have to feed him from a bar-b-que skewer. Other times, he comes out and waits to be fed, as I approach the tank.

Sounds like he's spoiled rotten ;) don't own a Favrus.. but my other spineys are sometimes like this when I feed them well for a few days or weeks. My one spotted would lay there and let me stuff a worm in his mouth i think if I didn't make him come up to get it. lol

the lazy eel. I think the starving idea is best. give him 2 days or so and I'm sure he'll want food enough to be more active. the lfs out here uses this method for timid fish, maybe it will work with lazy fish too lol. how big do favrus get in aquaria guys? ive heard 3 feet, and ive herd 18-20"? anybody got a monster?

Thanks Guys, sounds like lazy and not sick, will try the starve out for couple days and see if that livens him up. He has been pretty spoiled and I caught him cruising this morning before the lights went on.

As far as the Size goes, I am pretty sure that the Armetus gets to be 3' and fatter, the Favus typically tops out at 2' is a little leaner and I think has nicer markings. Maybe I am wrong I wouldn't mind having a 3' Favusbut 18-20" would be fine also. would love to see pics of a Monster Favus too.

also keep in mind adult spineys generally only need to be fed 2-3 times a week. so fasting it every other day shouldn't pose any issues and may be better for it's digestion.

I've never seen a Favrus over 20".. online or in person.

but I've been told M. Dayi will get around the same size and I have 2 about 6 monthes old atm already pushing 12".

So there is alot of unknown in reguards to many species of spiney's yet. I seriously doubt a favrus will get over 24" particularly in captivity.. but I wouldn't be shocked if proved wrong.

I would love to be the one to prove you wrong. But I actually am hoping it does not get huge. My ultimate tank (a 360-480) would have a variety of big 10-14" fish, 18-24 inch eel type monsters, any 3' fish would limit me a bit. Already have a weeksii bichir, 2 senegals, an oscar and a leopard cpenotoma. Would like to add an indo dat and if I get the 480 a black or silver arowana. I am already searching for the right deal on a tank but I
figure I have 8-14 months to find it.

Starving it out for a few days worked. he has been coming up almost to surface to get worms from my hand for about a week now. Even if fed a couple days in a row. And I am seeing him cruise around now. Slowly but surely getting more active and tame.

Next to try and get him on pellets.
