I picked up about an 8-9 inch Tire Track Eel, M. Armatus, and was told he'd be fine in a 55 gallon. Came here did some research and it doesn't look like this is a good permanent home for him. Hes taking frozen food from my hand, shrimp, krill, bloodworms I try to mix it up but keep shrimp as the staple. Sand substrate, two HOB filters each rated for 70 gallons, the tanks been established for almost 2 years. I lowered the water level because I don't have a cover but the floating plants help with him not trying to get out it seems. Ive also got a big piece of driftwood with some rocks to make a cave and some stacked rocks on each side that he hangs in too. Hes really active and seems secure knowing hes got his hiding spots and expects food when ever I come up to the tank.
Basic questions I got, at what point would it be good to get him in a bigger tank, the sellers said he could live his life out because hes flexible and wont struggle turning around but I don't wanna house him in a tank that's too small
Can he live with CA cichlids (RT, GT, JD, Oscar, Parrot, Salvini, Tilapia) a Pleco and a Florida Gar in my 150g 6ft? From what I have read in the stickys it looks like even that wont be big enough for him to live out his life comfortably let alone the chance of him getting beat up by the cichlids. Also another worry would be him getting food with all the aggressive eaters.
The tank hes in now was originally a pretty chill community set up with some tetras and platys I was just letting breed out of control but the eel was wrapping them up quick so I moved the smaller fish out now he's with 2 silver dollars.
Thanks for any advice I'll try to get some pics up soon
