Would a Tiretrack and a Fire eel fit in a 100gal if I put them in at the same time, about 1/3rd planted and pvc tunnels all through out the substrate?

HMMMMMM,, may or may not work, these fish don't fair well with con specifics unfortunately.

Maybe as juvies, adults---:grinno:

Dont have them yet I just got the tank ready for eels with the pvc and putting screen in all the holes in the lid ect. I just was curious if they could co-habitate, thought if I get them at a smaller size it might work.

i agree with you. if they are placed in the tank at approximately the same size as juveniles and at the same time, you have a greater chance for success. i placed a peacock and tire track in the tank on the same day, before either could get into a comfort zone. they were both juvenile. the peacock was about 5 inches and the tire track was about 6 inches. they did well together. i kept them together for about 3 months. i eventually moved the peacock to another tank, but not because of any issues between the two eels. plus, your point of having plenty of hiding places is a good idea. also, older eels are more aggressive and increase your risk of failure.

I agree.. to a point. as juvies i don't think you'll have any issues. and can grow them out abit together. as a perminent situation. The odds are against you. Once my 3 fire eels settled in and got some size to them aggression has started. TT's are notoriously more aggresive then Fires.. Though I have one fire I would put odds on against my TT if they where the same size. Even a 100 gallon for either one of these species will be "tight" for a single specimen let alone 2 seperate eels.

It would work until they each reached somewhere in the 1 1/2 foot range.. then you will find out very quick if they will be able to co-habitate. I've headr many people keeping them together and then comeing home one day to a dead fire eel. Some of it may be due to poor husbandry or other underlaying issues. but a majority of these deaths there was prior escelation of aggression between the 2 fish.

I personally would never consider mixing any of my eels with another eel species. Unless I had a very large tank 500Gal+ and even then I'm not sure I'de be willing to chance loseing either fish.

philly you're absolutely right but I would stress the fact the likelyhood of these 2 liveing permentently together is exceedingly rare, and unlikely.

Thank you for all the info and your personal opinions. I think I will not take the chance with the eels and just get one of the two in one tank, now I must decide which one??? I like the markings of the tire track, however I love the personality of the fire eel. I have also heard that the fire eel is less skiddish than the tire track.
HMMMMMM
