I just plugged in my new Finnex 500 Titanium heater and there are "heatwaves(heatmonkeys)" coming from the titanium rod.

Is this normal???

Sorry, I've never owned a titanium heater before. BTW, I did follow instructions...... Emerse heater for 15 minutes before plugging in unit.

What is a "heat monkey". Can you elaborate more?

Can't say I've ever heard of "heatmonkeys"..haha...but if its just the distorted view that heat produces right above the heater, I'm pretty sure thats normal.

Yup, especially on higher wattage heaters.

Mine does that, the titanium heaters have a much smaller diameter and shorter than the glass equivalent and thus less surface area to dissipate heat. They give off more heat per square inch, hence you get more heat haze.

Thats what I meant.

You ever look down the road in the summer and see what looks like water on the road and you know it hasn't rained for weeks.......

........HEATMONKEYS;)

Thanks for the quick replies.

Start to worry when you DON'T see the heatwaves.
