Go to your local TJ Maxx if you want great quality grapewood for cheap prices. I was working yesterday and picked this piece of grape wood up for only $9.99 and it is a huge piece. It's about 25" long. So cheap it's a steal!

BTW I work at the one in Robinson, I'm stocking them on the shelves today, assuming that I do not buy them all myself come up and get a few if you live in the area.

thanks for the heads up!

its not good in aquariums it gets nasty fungus all over because it isn't "real" wood...but it is excellent in terrariums

what do you mean it's not real wood?

i think he means its not like a hard wood

I just bought some last week at our pet store for $20. I've boiled it, and have had it soaking since I bought it & the tanins still aren't out of it. Not sure if it's worth it. I'm still going to go and check out TJ MAX. LOL...

i dont know why every talks so bad on grapewood, ive got two big peices in my tank and i have had no "fungus" growing on it
what i like about it is it only took 2 or 3 days to have it waterlogged, my water was brown for maybe a week maybe less, and it darkens up and looks great in aquariums

IMO it is easier to use and looks better than most other kinds

Grape wood does tend to rot and grow mold & mildew on it even in moist terrariums. A lot of people even hesitate to use grape wood in high humidity aquariums because of this. I've only ever used it in an aquarium once, and it worked great for me, though it did grow some crud on it- personally, it didn't bother me. It just make things look more natural. But, I'm of that school of thought, and I don't bother bleaching rocks or other decorations like that in my aquariums, because I think the algae & crud growing on them looks decent.
Like cassharper said, a lot of that fungus will go away over time, but it does tend to rot, compared to other driftwoods (specifically thinking the stuff sold as aquarium driftwood). In my opinion, unless you're feeding a pleco, it's a better investment to just buy the nice stuff in the first place. But, it's also nice to change things up from time to time, so I'm probably going to pick up a couple pieces of this stuff. It's cheap enough to use it for a while and toss it when it starts to get cruddy & break down.
