I was thinking of adding peat moss to my tank to give my angels more natural water settings. My current tap is 8.5 and was wondering how to add it safely to my aquarium.

I went ahead and got a bag of peat at a nursery, my biggest fear is that i put it in and my tank has a quick ph swing and i lose my fish.

personally i dont like to mess with the water as times it can do more harm then good.

Do you know what your KH is?

This is linked to the Ph, and whether the peat will have any effect.

damn dude, ph 8.5? i live 70 miles north of your and my tap is 7.4. yeah as stated above check your carbonate hardness. if i understand correctly the carbonate hardness is the "buffer" that will keep your pH from crashing.

i thought about adding peat to my water before too, but i figured it would be difficult to maintain the water conditions with my water change regimen. although i have to say that there IS something about the tannins in the peat that made my discus happier and made them less shy.

My water is quite hard. KH = 15

My Angels also loved it when I added a bit of peat extract. Though it did nothing for the ph or KH, there was still something in it that the fish liked
