Are you taking them apart during water changes to effectively clean the tank underneath? All my large CA/SA tanks were always low decor tanks so I haven't had a tank with that many rocks before and I noticed a lot of you guys have a large quantity of rocks where using a gravel vac might be a challenge.

On my tank I actually built the rock around a powerhead. Did this so I wouldn't have to worry about moving the rock everytime I cleaned. I also covered the suction tube of my penguin400 hob behind the rocks. It wouldn't be fun moving 200 lbs of stone every time I vacuumed.

I pull all the roks out every 6 weeks or so,net out fry and holding females and gravel vac under the rocks. Then I put the piles together in a new design.

I take all my rocks apart and vacuum the gravel under my them every week. It's a big pain in the ass cause I have so much rock.I use to stack the rocks back up almost the same. But now I just kinda half ass it as I just don't have the time to make it exactly the way I want antmore.

Do I need to vacuum under my rocks only every two or three weeks?

I have three tanks with a bunch of rock and wood in them. I just do large water changes once a week and suction out the visible stuff. I only pull all the stuff out and do a serious over all gravel vacuum every three months or so. No problems at all so far...the fish are healthy and the water looks clear as a swimming pool.

My rocks are to heavy for me to move. My cichlids dig and hide under the rocks for the most part so there are usually nice openings I just stick a end of a small tube that is being cyphoned under it and it does a pretty good job at getting a lot of the crap under my rocks.
