Im contemplating a jag tank but still debating whether or not to keep a Male jag all by himself and give him all the territory space within a tank or give him a female mate. Which route would you guys guesstimate would bring his aggression out more? I would think by himself, since he'll be use to having territory space to himself, but then again cichlids while breeding i've read they do go psycho.

They're wicked in pairs.

well...i dont know if this helps at all....but......I eat guppies.....in my orange juice.....they swim around and then I drink them up....and then they swim in my stomach....

I'd get a female jag.

I've got cons breeding like crazy right now and both of the parents want me dead when I come anywhere even close to the tank. Just for fun I put about 10 snails in the tank. When the lights are off it sounds like they are playing pool from the sounds of the shells hitting the glass. And you could keep a couple of other fish in the tank for added aggression but I don't know if they would make it if the jags do pair up.

A guy at a lfs was telling me about cons breeding in a tank full of 8" or so pacu's that were scared to death of them. All of them were in a huddle on the opposite end of the tank up by the waterline, lol. The male con would constantly dart across the length of the tank to keep them in check if one of them moved too close.
