where is the cheapest place to get a 180 online?? would it be cheaper to build one maybe even 30" wide out of plywood and use the glass from a scrapped 125??

I say if you have to ask; "build or buy?", buy the tank.
Like most people will tell you, you only really start saving money on larger tanks (300g up) if you go the plywood route. But you spend a lot of hours building a ply tank.

If you like building stuff with your hands and you have the patience to see a 1 or 2 or 3 month project through, then go plywood. Don't do it to save money. You could probably find a second hand all glass tank for way less $$$ than building a plywood tank.

yah thats what im thinking, I actually just bought a 96" long 30" wide 24" high all glass from an lfs but it needs resealing and I just had back surgery so I cant move it at all. But for 400 I couldnt pass it up

I was getting excite about the glass cages site...then I saw how much they want for a 340....HOLY CRAP! Thats a lot of money for a tank! personally I say if you shop around you can save a TON of money, look for the glass for the front from a demolition, make a listing on your local freecycle site for wood scraps and you'll get most of what you need for free, meaning all you buy is stain (which I also got from freecycle) and epoxy, and for that if you watch ebay you can still get a deal...WAY better than buying!

I have a 1 tear old and a 4 year old, for me I didn't think acrylic was a good idea, but in my looking, it was more expensive than glass.....

glass - heavier, cheaper, not easy to scratch,
acrylic - lighter,expensive,scratchy,

depend on how big ur tank gonna built and most important..

i've talked to somebody about which type scratches easier, and i believe nethier scratches easier than the other, i've had both scratch very easily, to be honest i've had more glass scratch. i believe the "scratches easier" whole bit to be a myth. just from my experiences.

but definetly build in acrylic, you'll save yourself a whole lot of work, being that glass is much heavier. i was looking at an oceanic tank on ebay and they listed so so many advanteges of acrylic over glass, i don't rmember all of them, but i do remember that when the acrylic was made correctly it is a good deal clearer than a glass tank.
