Well I was at the LFS yesterday when I saw in a tank what looked to me like a dovii, a very small one mind you. He was mixed in with jags and I figure the LFS probably does not know what he is. Here is the problem...I really want a dovii...is $7.00 a good price for one? I cannot properly house it at the moment but I know I can do better then any stump jumping Jethro around here could. Hell...there were people looking at oscars and wondering what they were, thought they were plecostomus because of the tag on the tank. So anyway, what I would have to do is house it temporarily in an empty 10g or with my two young firemouths in the 29g. As for long term the best option I got is a metal cattle trough...probably about 100g. I could keep him in there for awhile downstairs. There happens to be a drain on the thing on the bottom so that might even be useful for tank cleaning. The reason I probably should not get it...5 fish tanks already. I am basically broke and I have no idea how long I am going to live in this house...I hop around a bit sometimes. But at the same time I want to seize this oppertunity and lets face it...it won't find a better home. So...any thoughts and suggestions welcome. I am pretty positive on the species but I will take a pic of it if I get it.

Can you use a metal container to keep fish? I really don't know.

I would pass on this guy untill you can afford to give him a big tank.

Yeah...I know its probably not the best idea. Just gets me so excited. I don't see why a fish cannot live in there. I have seen baitfish live in them but ehy normally do not stay in there long term.

I think most metal cattle troughs are galvinized to prevent rust and I know that galinizeing uses cienide so I'm afraid that in a situation where the water wasn't being replaced all the time it could leach out and kill the fish.

You could allways get a plastic one if you can't walk away from this guy.

....I think you pretty much already know the answer yourself, from the way you posted. You know you should leave it be, and I think its best if you do. As for baitfish living in troughs...well, their purpose in life isn't really to stay alive, now is it? (Least not from human perspective).

I know peeps that use the water troughs...great things...nice and large. If you can get plastic/plexciglass ones though....much better. I would wait on the dovii for a bit bro! Cuz they get aggressive quickly and since your already filled up on tankz and options to get more tankz, it would be quite a chore shifting your fish around to accomidate his aggression. Plus you could save that space for more pike cichlids! YAY!! Lemme hear yaz say Cren. tigrina...yeah baby! :P

save up to get a tank before getting that dovii. i wouldnt wan to see another pet fish getting eaten by its owner down the road.....
