I have a small planted aquarium that is fairly new. I recently have start to have a problem with algae/fungus. I am doing a 50% water change at least once a week and manually removing what I can to reduce organic matter in the tank. Should I still be dosing once a week with ferts or should I hold off until the problem is under control.

ya do less, but cant the plants just get food form your fish or anything.. if not then use less

Depends on the fert you're using... Flourish Excel would probably help this situation, but most other fert products are going to make it worse if you keep dosing.

Thanks for the info. What about adding CO2 to the system? Do you think it would give the plants an edge in beating out the algae?

If you do not have any form of co2 or carbon supplement (excel) then there is no need to ever dose and fertilizers.

The only exception to that general rule is if you have a organic potting soil substrate that is a few inches thick. In that case asfter a year or so you will need to dose pottasium on occassion.

Even A diy co2 system will help out.

If the algae is bad I would add a algae killer to go ahead and rid the tank of algae all together. And then get your plan together to get back on track.
