i got a small ntt dat that eats non live foods with no problems at all, and i have never fed live fish to it. would it be a bad idea to feed him live fish now, as i dont want to convert his feeding habits to live only, but i have about 100 dovii fry that i can feed him every now and then.

my dat is only about 1.5"

Live food=low nutrition, lots of fat, low protien, chance of carrying over disease. Pellet food=higher protien, vitamins, minerals, parasitic free. Dont do live if its eating nonlive

i feed live river/ghost shrimp once per month

no need for live feeders

If you raised the fry and you know they are in good health, then it should probably be ok as a a treat once in a while, but you do run the risk that they will not want anything but live, or that a unknown sickness was spreading in the fry and could infect your Dat.

I would just stick to what its on now.
