I have. 20cm f gar and I have had him for 2 weeks. Up until 3 days ago he did not feed on market shrimp so I got kinda worried so I got sum feeder gf's and bang he murdered every single 1. I rlly don't lik him on live only cuz its hard and annoying to quarantine gold fish. So should I be solid and starve him till he gives I'n or from ur guys exp will he not com to with frozen foods.
Thx

This is what i did wit my gars. All four of them are now on pellets. So i now can say it works. I think its all about getting gar to realize that what you put into the tank is food apart from fish.

1) Buy some crickets
2) Buy a brown floating pellet. I use hikari bio gold.
3) Put some live crickets in the tank and watch them get eatten.
4) after a few days of feeding the cricket they will learn that if its brown and floats its food.
5) Mix the pellets with the crickets, and watch if he eats the pellets, he will take in his mouth and spit it out and maybe eat the odd one, this is gud as he is learn the pellets are food.
6)Cut down the number of crickets you feeding him , by now he sud be eating some pellet.
7) stop the crickets totally and just add pellets, he will go by them and push them around and will take some.

Thats how i got all my gar on pellets, now my small ones are eatting pellets and freeze dry shrimp daily.

Goodluck
Hope this helps you

Oh one more thing i have the same problem with feeders, as i takes too long and too much effort to feed your. Im abit worried abt the min size that a gar needs to be before you can stop having a gud all day supplier(feeds in the tank for when he wants to eat) of food for them, im sure someone here can help with dat.

Do not starve ur gar esp when small. This can be very detrimental to it. No starving is necessary for convertion

put it with something that does eat pellets if you can... funny as it sounds most my non-pellet eaters learned from pellet eaters. though with my gar he also got about 12" and started whacking the pellets w/out much to do on my part. both of mine still enjoy a goldfish schmorgasboard on occasion.
