To Get One Or Not? (reverse osmosis)

so yea, should i get one?? is it worth it? i currently just use my tap water, add dechlorinator, and let it "ferment" for 3-4 days. if i get RO would i still have to do my old routine when doing water changes?? what do you guys think??

and when ever i just add tap water straight to my tank, the fish almost died on me, so that tells me that my water is prob too strong, since i can smell chlorine as well

Unless you have sensitive fish, you don't need RO.

as said only need ro for sensitive fish or for breeding soft water species (even then you can not just add ro it needs to be mixed with ro right or part tap water , i would continue on the path you allready doing ,ie let stand and add air stone

I use RO in my 260gal. and 2 10gal tanks. L.A. water is about 250 to350 ppm tds. my RO out is 4 ppm. My tanks are running about 150 ppm. Using raw water I don't Know what they would be.

What kid of fish do you have? I was under the impression that while its better to age your water, as long as you dose the tank with the proper amount of dechlorinator you shouldnt have a problem. I personallyfill a garbage can with sink water, dose it with prime, and just let it sit for as long as it takes me to drain the tank, and then pump it into the tank. I think its better to add the dechloronator to the new water on its own and then add it personally, had better results with that. Anyways, what kind of fish do you have, and what dechloronator are you using? You will find that MFK endorses prime pretty heavily - Ive never heard anyone say any other dechloronator was better.

i use beckett chlorine and chloramine remover that i got from home depot. i only have a flowerhorn right now in a 30 gal but planning to upgrade the tank when i find a good deal. i know that flowerhorns are pretty hardy fish and all, but im sorda "training" myself with water changes and stuff, cause im really looking forward in owning discus.

i started doing the aging of water after a close incident when i first did water change; i just add water straight from the sink, then add the dechlorinator. it wasnt a pretty sight looking at the fish, but shes ok now (she lived) lol
