So, I want a jag. Its my birthday in 5 days. Should I treat myself. Really would like to do it without taking out fish. If necessary I will take out 1 firemouth and 2 bala shark to make room.

Heres what I have:

6 foot tank. 180 gallons

5 Bala Shark
5 Clown Loach
2 Firemouth
1 Green Terror
1 Jack Dempsey
1 Small Oscar
1 Convict
1 Green Terror (king of tank)
1 BGKF
4 Bristlenose
2 Cuckoo Catfish

Am I overstocked? Would a baby jag be alright? Would really love to have one, originally wanted a female festae but they are rarer than hens teeth.

Will only make the decision if you guys think I wont be badly overstocked and things will die.

Thanks

Depends on filtration and the size of all the other fish...but if they are all juvies Id say ok FOR NOW but eventually youll be overstocked. Youll have to remove some fish but I say ... "To Jag" and I think the Jag will eventually own the tank.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Filtration is an Aqua One 2200 and an Otto PF2000N. Lot of current and I do a 40 percent water change once a week, water is always beautiful and clear.

blksubykid you say that eventually I would be overstocked.

If I thinned out some of the other stuff, say 2 of the balas and maybe 1 or 2 others would they be alright for life:

Looking to keep the jag, oscar, jd, green terror and firemouths. Could they exist together in the 180 for life?

I think the JD will get to about 10"
The Oscar will get to about 12"
Clowns will get to about 8 - 10" ... slowly
Firemouth will be arond 6" each
Jag 12"+
GT 8"

Seems like a lot to me. Would be a lot of cleaning IMO. Keep in mind that crystal clear water does not = low Nitrates. I have seen crystal clear water test at well over 80 ppm.

Exactly. I know the sizes of all the fish, everything is all still small and well, its the usual story about patience. Bought the fish to be monsters, feeding well just not seeing much size change. Should be happy with what I have, and I am... but god the jags look great. Probably wont end up doing it, if id known I could buy them i would have started with a jag, gt, jd and oscar small with some dithers like 3 balas and the bristlenose and would have left it at that. But everyone is attatched to everything in there. Oh well, can still dream. haha

TO JAG!!

Decided to go for it and I love the little guy, has been hiding a lot but hes big and ugly enough to take care for himself.

Will try and get some photos up in the next few days.

Good luck with your Jag, They are awsome. you will love this fish.
