This is the set off:
I eyed a beautiful ruby red peacock for weeks, but didnt purchase because my clan murders anything i put in there now a days. It was still there after my 5th visit or so, so it was mine. I bought it alone with no others like an idiot. I came home rearranged rock structures fed heavily and turned off lights. Put him in and everything was fine. I even took pictures later that night of him...

came home the next day (today) after work and he was fine just one little nip out of a fin. I go to pickup a couple fish for a different tank from a friend, couple hours later i come to a dead peacock.

I started with a messed up rift, now here i am with about 10 assorted( i know what they are but it doesnt matter now)

My tank is always healthy water-wise, its a 46 bow, has very good filtration, nice rock structures i built out of slate and an established ph of 8+ so itd be awesome to just keep it african.

option 1- overcrowd to tame a bit (i have filtering for it but dont like the idea) with mostly males, etc...
option 2- Go one or two species

I have a female nimbochromis venustus that ive raised, and i really like them. so maybe get a couple more females and a nice male.

if i have room for another species, i would like to keep my sp. 44 "Thick Skin" Hap, and get some females for him also.

option 3- single species south american like a dovii ...just a thought of mine.

any suggestions and help are very appriciated.

Wih a 46 I'd go
The one male / three female single species route. Enough fish for activity keeps the male full of color and fry galore. Would choose Africans no larger than 7 inches fully grown... I may be wrong but isn't nimbochromis like a 12 inch fish fully grown. You're. Other statements I don't have enough info to answer. Ciao!

option 1 w/mbuna all male or species is basically your only option IMO

46 gal is too small for Haps IMO

Parachromis Dovii is not an option at all - These fish get 2' in length within the 1st 3 years and head towards 3' within the next 4-6 years. The Dovii will eventually kill all it's tankmates as well. To own a Dovii think 300gal.

No Dovii or Nimbo's. You could use the bowfront as a GO for a group of Nimbos, but would have to move the pair(s) into at least a 90. A 6 footer is even better for long term.

That tank would make for a nice West African bio-type and your thick skins.

I agree.stick to some of the smaller mbuna and do 1 or 2 breeding groups.I particularly like saulosi in smaller setups.Nice blue males with bright yellow females.

Thanks for your responses everyone, i have been aware of how big they all grow to and im getting a 150+ within the year so thats where the thoughts came from.

Anyways
