I have a male and female JD that I introduced together when they were both around 6 inches. Ivrealky want to breed them. I thought they paired up because they were waving around, twitching like crazy (like mini seizures haha), lip locking, showing crazy colors, and the male chased the female. Then they were best buds swimming around together not leaving the others side. Then the male nearly killed the female out of nowhere and I "hospitalized" her. She recovered, then I put her back to try again. This time no weird pairing behavior, just back to being buddies. The female actually would nip at the male this time (revenge!). They have been great for a couple weeks now and yesterday he started being mean to her again. They havent laid eggs anywhere that I know of. Have they paired up or are they fighting out of aggression? Why would they love eachother for a while then hate eachother out of nowhere?
