we have a 75 gallon tank at home and we have jack dempseys and convicts, catfish and a pair of orange (convict and red devil mix?) and a yellow and black striped bandit, a green terror and a jewel. my question is do these fish prefer just logs and rocks or plants and logs? to me all those fake plants look, well fake. we have all these beautiful LIVE fish and it just cheapens the look with all these plants in the tank. we were pricing real plants and they were just way out of our budget. we have two large logs and a few rocks where they can hide but are the plants really necessary?

Those fish will tear up any real plants you put in there. I have JD's myself and I would love to plant their tank but they will destroy plants. Go with cool wood, maybe a few nice rocks. There are some nice fake plants but you have to look hard and anchor them well because even those will get pulled up by the fish.

to me it looks crowded with all the plants and then these medium to large sized fish swimming, but i wanted to make sure they had plenty of hiding places for them.

yeah if you try to plant it they're gonna root like crazy, you should be fine with what you have as far as decor

If you wanted to add live plants then i would get some java fern. It tends to be hardy and you can attach it to the wood.
