I have my 120 gallon tank setup with about a 30 gallon sump for a filter. In the tank I have 5 discus that are from 1.5" to 2.5" and my retic pup that is maybe 3.5". As you have probably read, I have just gone through treating him with prazi and metro to get him to eat..with the treatments ending successfully about a week ago. I had planned on purchasing a motoro pup but do to negative financial interventions have not followed through on the purchase. However, I have traded my gold piranha to the LFS that I had originally gotten my retic pup from for another retic pup. They are supposed to be in this coming week. Here's the question....

The pups they're getting are WC, as was the one I currently have. From all the suggestions, I plan on treating it as soon as I receive it. The only tank I have available for QT is a 29 gallon. This might be a bit tight for the pup, though MUCH easier to treat with the meds and to do water changes. The prazi treatment states to treat once a week for 3 weeks..the metro every day for 10 days. So, long term I'd be looking at roughly 3 weeks for the pup in the small tank.

Million dollar question...do I QT in the smaller tank for that amount of time OR do I put it in the bigger tank and treat that tank. Of course I do know that I'd have to acclimate her to the 29 when I got her home..and then acclimate her again to the 120, if I do the QT.

What say ye???

Thanks for the input!

put a divider in your main tank and treat again. Retics are touchy and in that small of a tank lots of things can go wrong fast.

You can do whatever you want but I always QT EVERY fish regardless of WC, CB, from a friend and etc.

Better be safe than sorry..

Qt. That's a small ray and should be ok for a week or 2. Don't risk an outbreak of something weird. I've learned my lesson before. My .02

I always QT.....

I have a stict policy that i qt all of my fish, however, if you retreat the whole tank as stated above, I think you should be fine. I keep a 20 gallon for small fish, a 55 gallon for medium fish and a kiddie pool for larger ones.

I've decided to QT and should have the new ray Friday. She will be in the 3-3.5" range. I picked up a 30 gallon breeder that has a footprint of 36"x18"...not much more water volume than the 29, but much more floor space. Having the two other rays and the discus in the large tank now, the QT is by far the better idea.
Thanks for all the comments everyone.
