When you have several large piranha inside a large tank. How the hell do you clean it?? Can you stick your hand in there to vacuum the gravel, re-decorate, clean algae and whatnot??

Just want some insight on what I have to look forward to in a year or so.

Thanks

I use a removable tank divider when I have to put my hand in with Ps. Just do 1/2 the tank at a time.

ive always just kept one eye on p and one eye on what im doin, mostly watch the p's, not sure why, they just hide in the weeds and are scared to death of my hand. Would be a nasty bite though,,, has anyone ever been bit????

Nipped by small ones usually don't notice until I see blood. A couple buddies were bitten by larger ones, that they felt.one was bitten on his little fingerIt took off the outer side of his fingertip to the bone along with about 1/2 his fingernail. my rpbs were not shy at all. to them the lifting of the lid meant that the next thing that hit the water was food.

I have scars from my P's. I was cleaning the top of my tank and it jumped out and bit me. I ahve also been fixing my plants and it came through the plant and nipped me. It doesn't hurt unless he gets a good chunk. there just so fast you can even really feel it!!

I keep a very thin gravel layer in my mixed pygo tanks. I just used a toilet plunger and plungger the gravel so all the dirt/poop flys up into the water then do my water change. You always gotta give certain fish there respect, and never get sloppy or not pay attention and you will be fine.

The only P I have right now is an elong about 7" give or take.

He is really mean, but I have him in my bedroom where he doesn't see much action, so if I stand in front of his tank he doesn't really like that and just tries to hide.

He'll try and bit my finger through the glass, but once I get in the tank he's just a sissy!

i always just got on with it and cleaned it out whilst keeping an eye on what they were doing which was mainly cowering in the corner until they got used to me.
never got bitten had over 5 different species and over 20 piranha in total of which the biggest was 8''+

Same song. I just watch the P (three 8 inchers) while I am in there. Once in a while they get a little to near my hand and I just chase them away.
