Tempe, AZ
I have a 37G with a Electric Blue African Cichlid (4"), Green Terror (2.5"), Senegal Bichir (3"), 2 CAE (1.5"), and a Dojo Loach (4.5"). My tanks temp is generally 79 degrees at all times and filtration, fish health are all good. However, Hendrix (the Electric Blue) tends to hold the belief the entire tank is his territory. He doesn't bite anyone but he will chase Marley (GT), Dre (Dojo), and the CAE (Sacco and Vanzetti) into the cave from time to time. I will be getting a larger tank in about a year or 10 months about but I've begun to be more attatched to the Bichir and GT and am now considering if I should take Hendrix to my LFS (which isn't where I bought him although I'd still get store credit on the trade) or should I keep Hendrix and let them grow out together and hope Hendrix doesn't turn into a killer.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

You should trade them all in right now. Your GT will not last a year in the 37G tank even if kept alone

Yeah ok.. :thumbsdow

any reasonable opinions?

I don't know Africans; how much bigger is he likely to get? Eventually the gt will be 8-9" at least and plenty beefy. If things get no worse (torn fins, fin rot), and you can get a larger tank sooner than you planned, maybe things will work out. Otherwise, with the current schedule, I think you might want to take him back and reduce the aggression levels.

If you wanted "reasonable opinions" you should have asked a guy who works at your LFS. He'd give you an opinion you want to hear. In fact he'll tell you anything to make sure you buy more fish whether you have proper means of accomodating them or not. Yep, that's real "reasonable" all right :shakehead

Stab is right! but he says it in a much harsher way! the tank will be overloaded very qiuckly!

the reason it is taking the whole tank is because that is smaller than their territory would be in the wild!

such as convist take about a 3' territory in the wild! so they shouldnt be kept in a tank to much smaller than that with fish in it!

My vote is trade him in to the LFS. Sorry. :(
