Hi, as some of you might know, i just started a 400 gal pond with predatory fishes that are all about 10cm each(dont know if theyre still considered juveniles). There are arowanas, oscars, polypterus, etc. And i just realized something horrible.

About 4 years ago, i used to have a 700 gallon pond that used to be in the same spot, but as there needed to be a renovation in my front yard, i was forced to make the pond smaller which is what i have now. I used to have goldfish and plecos inside and everytime its the raining season( i live in indonesia, tropical), i would see at least 5 toads in the pond almost every night for the majority of the rainy season(lasting about 2 months). There would be at least 5 mornings where i would see eggs dotted around the pond connected to each other by a transparent slime everywhere and there would be at least 1 goldfish dead. I would always have to remove the eggs which took the entire day and there would always be at least 100 tadpoles that managed to survive by the end of the rainy season (imagine if i didnt remove the eggs lol). I would also have to do a 100% water change and remove all the tadpoles as otherwise they would make the water very dirty and kill everyone(ever happened once, very unpleasant sight).

This was actually a major reason on why i wanted to get predator fishes as i thought they would eat all the eggs and tadpoles but upon further research, these toads could be poisonous. Though im quite sure they are posionous to fish as whenever i try to remove them from the pond, they would pee/excrete some sort of liquid that makes my skin itchy. These toads are VERY massive measuring at about 6 inches so any fish in my pond even if they were adults would be scared of it.

Anyone ever dealt with this kind of problem? I tried searching it up on google but could only mostly find methods on how to INVITE them to your pond which is unbelievable to me. Ive actually tried a few years ago by adding this local freshwater fish (freshwater pomfret) which looks and acts exactly like red belly piranhas but bigger and they live solitary and not in groups. It sort of worked out as they scared all the toads away because any toad that comes in the pond will be biten by these fish. I saw a toad barely escaping with 3 limbs left and often see dead ones in the pond.

It is now the dreaded raining season and i just saw a behemoth female toad in the pond in the morning which reminded me of that. I will try to remove the toads as soon as i see them.pls help..

Any suggestion,opinions, ideas?
Would it be safe to place the pomfret fish inside with the others?
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Do you know what species toads you have in your area?

You could add a flat plastic guard to the outer edges of the pond. It would have to be completely smooth, no openings or ridges as they can climb, and it would need to be around 2ft tall as to not allow them to jump over it.

You could also do a mesh net over the top of the pond weighed down by rocks. The holes in the net would need to be big enough to allow you to still feed the fish while also being small enough to not allow the roads into the water.

You could even do a combination of the 2 ideas to help limit access the toads have to the pond even further.

Sounds like invasive cane toads, can you get a photo of one of them and your pond?
You will probably have to build some kind of barrier or wall arond your pond in order to keep the toads out and away from it.

Sorry for the mess in the middle, i havent gotten the cable of the heaters and pump all sorted out. Going to do it hopefully be this week. I will try to get a picture of the toad asap(they only come out at around midnight mostly). I also took a picture of a section of the front yard.
I dont know if i can put any mesh as the frogs are VERY heavy having broken 2 of my fish nets when i try to get them out and theres also a fountain in the middle. Placing a fence would also be hard as i have nothing to attach it to or make it stand.

Are there any chemicals to scare them away? Or other options like adding specific types of fishes?

Thanks!

Maybe you can put up some sort of metal grating just above the pond and electrify it. Once the toad hops onto the grating it gets electrocuted to death.

I figure I could make a version of it for around $100 but I understand you not wanting to see electrocuted frogs. Do you have an opposition to seeing dead frogs though? If not you could dig a wide and deep trench, about a foot wide and long, and push pointy sticks down into it to spear the frogs when they jump in.

That would also be impossible as everywhere around the pond is cement so it would take months and wouldnt be practical :(

I am sorry my mind was somewhere else when I wrote that, I forgot it was surrounded by concrete. Nice concrete by the way, it looks new.
My final suggestion would be to put a strong net over it.
