in my pool, which has a cover on it still that has been collecting water all year, i found 2 pairs of toads in amplexus. i did some research and discovered that one of the pairs consists of a male fowler's toad and a female american toad. i found out that these species commonly hybridize, which i think is pretty neat. i collected them, and they are currently in a 10 gallon tank with a large water dish and peat moss for substrate. they are still in amplexus. now i have some questions:

what should i feed them? earthworms, mealworms, and what else?
how can i improve my tank set-up?
when i upgrade them to a 35 (36"x12"x18"), will i be able to add some grey tree frogs that i catch in my yard? i know you shouldn't mix herps, but they are coming from the exact same place, you know?
and do you guys have any other tips? they would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

i think you should let them go back by your pool and let them do their thing. then wait for the eggs to hatch and collect a couple young toads to rear up.

toads will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. i had an american toad when younger. it ate pill bugs, spiders, centipedes, moths, caterpilars, crickets, grasshoppers, and earthworms........any insect will do.

If they get the chance they'll eat the grey tree's. As phantoms says, toads are very opportunistic when it comes to feeding.

thanks guys. the pool is drained now, so i can't put them back. the male still hasn't let go of the female, so what should i do to let them breed? i still want to keep them though, so please don't tell me to let them go, ok? should i make the tank almost all water, and give them a platform to crawl onto when they want to? i might do that, but i want your guys' opinions before i do something like that.

thanks
