This is one of five F0 Beani that I currently own...split across three tanks. The other day I came to the conclusion that this is by far the most aggressive cichlid I have ever owned. The male in this photo killed his mate. He is split in a 100 gallon tank with another male. I have yet another male and a small female in a 40 gallon breeder growing out. I had three females in that tank originally, but after seeing one of the three killed I moved the spare female into yet another 40 gallon tank until she grows out.

The male in the photo "jumped" the divider to get to the other male. I separated them yet again and watched as the larger (8") male scoured the side of the egg crate divider for a way to get back to the other side. He literally covered the divider inch by inch....you could see him thinking. LOL

Love Beanies

Yes when I had mine about 8" also, he was a monster. He didn't like anything... I did enjoy him, but I could not put anything in the tank with him... Very nice cichlid :)

Really nice! Gonna be a real looker

Looks rather skinny. Maybe he uses all his energy devising plans to breach the divider ! lol !

hmmmm. I have never heard of this one. Beautiful fish! Is there a common nick name for this fish (other than beanie). Looks a little like "black nasty"

Nice, do they have an average growth rate from your experience?
I think they grow pretty slow. Like most fish they get longer first and bulk catches up later. I couldn't speculate on growth rate time. I wish they would grow quicker so I could move the female into the tank. She's just a "snack" now. I'm better suited to deal with bigger fish.

Beani is it. However your asking makes me want to call them "Nasty Little Pricks"...or NLP's if that catches on. :)
