The Managuense are breeding again. I've been taking some close ups of the Eggs and the breeding process. Hoping to get some stills of the "glancing" behavior. That should happen in s couple days. In the meantime...
ONe day after the eggs have been laid the female spends most of her time fanning the eggs...and keeping the male on his toes...fins.
SIde shot of the female fanning the eggs:
This is the male reacting...objecting...to me standing in fron to the tank with my camera. Beautiful fins...
And some close ups....female doing a close inspection of the eggs.
and closer. Note that the eggs are more or less opalescent. You can see one unfertilized egg on the far left.
and closer
Nice shot of the female fanning the eggs.
Here's a close up of one cluster of eggs a day after they were laid.
Here they are about six hours before they were chewed out by the parents. You can see the tiny fry inside...the yolk sac being visible.
Here's an overall shot of the breeding site with most of the newly hatched fry gone. You can see the unfertilized eggs.
Here's a close up of the egg "shells" after the fry have been removed...a few of the fry have yet to been removed...unfertilized eggs ignored.
Another close up. If you look at the overall shot and this photo you can see that the parents have placed gravel on the breeding area. I believe the parents do this to keep the fry more or less in place while they are harvesting the babies.
I am going to update this thread with photos taken over the next couple days.
