A few months back I went down to Segrest Farms to photograph their stock. I took @ 3500 photos of close to a thousand different species of fish. I posted a few, but by all counts the photos belong to them. Recently got permission to enter one of the shots into the Omega One Photo contest....and won. Second year in a row winning...psyched.

Here's the photo that won and will appear in the 2013 calendar:

I took quite a few shot of this fish. Other than the fact that it has pointy teeth and that it gets big, I know little. LOL Anyway, here's a few more of the fish.

Very cool fish.

Segrest had a total of 23 images of the same. Here's the link: http://goo.gl/a3DxI

Congratulations and I actually like the third photo best!

I like that photo a lot as well. The thing that sets off the shot that I entered is of course the open mouth. I worked for five day (11 hour days) taking photos on what could best be described as a photo assembly line. One of my biggest regrets was that I didn't have the time to ask questions and learn more about the different fish. Some of the fish were photo'd more than others. I will confess that when I found a willing subject, I shot the hell out of it. This was one of them.

Thanks for the input.

Phenomenal photos. I've never seen anything else that comes close to capturing the essence of this predatory fish. Menace, attitude, and of course...teeth! It's too bad you didn't get a chance to photograph any of the bigger armatus we've been getting in lately. Same basic body shape but deep black and red fins. And they're about 8-10". Oh well, there's always next time.

Do you think we could have stuffed them into that little plastic cube? LOL. Seriously...what size tank do you need for these fish? I would imagine they get pretty big.

Congratulations on the win :-)

Speaking of Segrest, how is your Thai Silk coming along?
