I like getting photographs of fish that aren't the standard side or front shot. I was able to get the first shot...liked it, moved closer to the tank and got the second...and better shot. There have four of these fish in a 100 gallon tank along with one very large (14) Pleco. I've had the Pleco for about thirteen years...ten of which he spent in the pond.

Short video of the two males jockeying for territory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfFzinyKqiI Don't know why I can't embed this.

The Pleco...H. Plecostamus I believe. If anyone know different, I wouldn't mind the ID.

Pleco could be a Gibbiceps...

Hey Mo, Great pics!!

Are these the same strain that are referred to as "blonde" or "sandy" HRPs?

I know that Jeff Rapps had a luecistic strain, I assume these are all describing the same trait. I think I remember reading that in some wild populations of HRP (could have been 'A. siquia' I dont recall) , it has been documented that up to 10% of fry present this coloration.

If that is true, I think that it is interesting that HRPs and Convicts share a similar polymorphism that normal cons do (Pink Convicts). Makes you wonder if they truly are a different sp. or just a genetic or geographic variation. Too much science for my simple brain ..... :nilly:

I personally think they're a geographic variant of each other. They both have very similar traits and look nearly identical with the exception of colors. The bars on a HRP are a bit different, but look at the different variants of Carpinte and Mo's Honduras Jags versus regular ones.

BTW Mo, these are pretty fish. My old pleco sorta resembled yours, had the same type of markings, tail and dorsal fin. That thing was an interesting booger lol
