One of the hobby magazines asked if I could get a shot of a large male Midas for an upcoming issue. I set out to get a portrait like "glamour" shot that showed a little attitude. I put the camera on a tripod and focused on an area that I had pre-lit in the tank. Then it was a simple matter of using a hand mirror and a remote trigger to capture the action. Not sure which one they are going to use....but I like the first one the best.

I like them all! However my one critique with the first one is that it's all face. While that is awesome, I kinda like when you kinda have she whole body showing attitude, like when u have that curve in the body and it kinda adds depth. I think it shows more attitude when the shot has more than just the face, u can really see the beauty of the fish and it's true aggressiveness in somethkng like the last pic in my opinion.

I can see your point. Typically I would have a little more "fish" in the photo. However in this case the shot was to be on the cover of the magazine and they wanted it a bit compressed to fit the format of the magazine.

Thanks for posting, Mo. Whenever I see "Today in teh fishroom" in the list of threads, I get amped. I'm with MP-Cichlid--the pics with the body of the fish are best. But I like 'em all.

You can actually see the individual teeth in the fish's mouth. Amazing
