ive decided lately to get back into reptiles. i used to keep a lot of scorpions but when they died of old age i didnt have the cash to buy more so everything went into disrepair.

so now im setting up a Tokay gecko/gekko gecko tank. ive found a nice 32flat that i put on its back pain of glass. making it 2' tall,2' wide,13" deep. all reptile tanks ive had a mesh screen for my heat lamp to sit on. but my 32flat now has the mesh screen as doors and a piece of glass as the top

so my question is will the heat lamp still produce heat through glass?

The bulb. Because heat radiates, from an inch or two away from the glass of the tank, it should pass straight through and warm the basking area.

What worries me is that if the bulb touches the tank glass, heat from the bulb will be forced into the tank glass surface by conduction, not radiation. This will make the tank glass become very hot, which it might not be able to cope with.

If the bulb is an inch or two away from the glass, you should be fine.
