Hey,
Im considering getting either a single tokay gecko or a pair. Anyone kept these. Id prefer a captive bred one but I havent seen one anywhere? Is there a good place to find captive bred tokays? If not, what's the best way of getting it tested and or treated for parasites. Just take it to my vet? Or are these companies, like florida herps, where you send in a fecal sample, and they send you back the medicine a good way to go?
Thanks

I'm not sure where to get a CB tokay, but Kingsnake and Fauna Classifieds would be good places to start looking; a CB one is certainly going to cost more than a WC one, though. Also, these geckos are pretty aggressive, so you may not want to keep a pair together; breeding aggression can lead to some very serious injuries. I've never heard of a company that will do testing like that; I wonder if they're actually reliable, though?

tokay morphs are expensive and lots are unproven... id be all over spending $500 ona a cali but thats it morph wise... tpkays are great display animals and sucky pets! but aslong as you understand that they are great! i love mine! i have a 1.2.0 group and they are ok... i wouldnt keep a pair, cos as wiggles said they get pretty fiesty but a trio or more girls and a large enclosure and it will work! or keep a male!

Over in the eu there are a few people cb'ing tokay must be stateside too... good luck with your hunt!

I use to have a breeding pair years ago. Both of course were wild caught and loved to bite. The babies on the other hand I got from them turned out pretty nice once you started to handle them daily. Check out faunaclassifieds. There's a bunch for sale on their right now but none are the normal morphs from what I've noticed lately.

Ive got a 55 gallon so space shouldn't be a problem. A trio would be good but until I find a good source, Ill start with one. I wish I could make it to the show, but Im not going to be able to. I may see about getting a wild caught one. Should I get a sample tested for parasites no matter what or wait and see if I notice anything strange.
