I'm planning to add a simple constant automatic water changer to my turtle tank, but it sits on the floor.
So, my current plan is, drip 0.5gph into it, and have the tank overflow into a container. The container would have a tom aquatics aqua lifter in it, which would pump the water to the nearest drain.

My question is, would the aqualifter be ok running dry a lot of the time? Would it be loud when running dry? Would I have to rig it up with a float switch?

bump again. I'll probably just do a float switch. Anyone have a link to a really easy to use float switch that just plugs in to the wall? Needs to be fairly small, preferably one with a water sensor rather than a float.

im not too sure about this, but i think it may be ok. ive taken them apart and all its consists of little diaphragms that pump the water in/out so i dont think they need to have water all the time. theyre cheap, so give it a try and see if it lasts!

Yeah when I get paid I'll order one.

It would probably be OK, but a float valve would work much better.
