Tomocichla asfraci maturing

Interesting looking little guys. I noticed heckellii in a lot of your pics, are they in your grow out tanks or have they been some sort of miracle fish that for some reason just seem to workout with a lot of your stock?

I grew out and have the heckelli, nanoluteus, asfraci and Guianacara all in the same tank.
For some reason it has seemed to work with minimal aggression so far.
When I had asfraci a number of years ago, they were very aggressive with each other, and I've heard many horror stories about heckelli aggression, but as of yet, this combination have seemed to work, and suppress intra-species infighting.
Stranger yet, there is also a volunteer young beani in the tank, been there since it was an egg.
The tank has a venturi at one end pumping about 1000 gph toward an overflow on the opposite end, I believe it helps the asfraci (maybe the others) chill.

Yes, temps are in the low to mid 70sF in summer (I unplug heaters) and high 60sF/low70sF in winter.
Those winter temps seemed to work especially well for keeping beani aggression low. I had 10 beani, with 2 pair breeding in the tank with temps in the 60s, when summer came and its higher temps, the beani carnage began.
The remaining breeder pair of beani are now in the pond until fall, I occasionally see them speed between lilies or hyacinth.

Looking good, Duane!

They're also each in good-sized groups and you keep lower temps, correct?

Matt
