I've never owned any of these but they have always interested me. The Tuba is a real black widow is normal for them?

In my experience tuba are generally very hard on each other, even as juvies. I started with half dozen 2" juvies in a 150 gal tank, and from the get go, they were relentless. Ended up with the 3 males, that were given to Dr Mike who had the "Black Widow"female.
My water flow/current was approx 1200gph at the time, and in retrospect it should have been double that, and temp may have been a bit high 80'F. More current and lower temp may have made aggression less, but they shared the tank with 6 Paretroplus menerambo (which they ignored).
I am keeping the seiboldi and asfraci in the mid 70s now with high current, and aggression seems relatively minimal so far, all are small yet though (2"-4").

Nice! I had a 10" pair of Tuba years ago and the male was just an absolute bastard to her! I donated them to my friend who at the time was in charge of Steinhart Aquarium's cichlid displays (he has since retired) and he had them in a 5000 gallon tank by themselves and he STILL would chase her whenever she came out. Cool fish but the aggression is a bit much. LOVE those Asfraci. You shouldn't have much aggression issues with them. I had 4 that all grew to a good size including my pair that were about 10". He was a dominant type fish but I don't remember him being aggressive. Still hurts having lost that pair!

Nice pair of tuba, keeping them separated seems a good concept to me.
I had a pair of adult asfraci over 5 yrs ago that spawned, and soon after the male then killed the female, overnight, I will be watching my younguns carefully.
