Ok so I know when you do water changes it's important to make sure the water you're dumping in is the same temperature (and treated of course). My question is, how picky are you all with your water temp? I wonder if I'm being too cautious by making the temp get either exactly right or within 1 degree using a thermometer and lots of careful cups of really hot/cold water.

Are you guys picky or is room temp (roughly 69-71) water close enough for a 20% weekly water change where I keep my tank at 76-78?

I go within a few degrees. It shouldn't make that much of a difference, when you only change 25% of the water.

I just feel the water in the tank and then set the water for as close as possible... usually is right on the money +/- 1

How about a bichir and a needlenose? I know my bichir is pretty tough but I've heard some people say needlenoses are kinda dainty...then again I've heard the other way around too....

if my heater was on before the WC, ill make the water a tiny bit warmer than the tank temp, or if the tanks been off for awhile for a big cleaning.

if the heater was off, i try to match the temp as close as possible by feel. even with a large WC, temp wont be affected drastically without adding water thats on the extreme end of hot or cold

I've found that my senegalus is pretty resilient. I have no experience with needlefish though.

I do small frequent water changes on my tanks, I don't worry about the water temp.
