I have a problem... my tank is overrun with Malaysian trumpet snails. I bought maybe 40 of them last year I'd say I now have anywhere from 5000 - 5 million. lol.

Does anyone have any suggestions on culling the herd? I don't want to totally rid the tank of them. They seem to do a good job of keeping my sand bed aerated. I just would like to be able to see the sand that's under all those stinkin' MTS.....

Set them up with a bait overnight and you can ditch the ones stuck to the bait to the bin the following morning or simply crush them and feed them to your fish. Reducing the amount of foods also help cut off their population.

+1 for the above statement lure them with a cucumber or any greens then dispose of the ones you dont want

Yeah, I thought about just scooping them out but with all the crushed coral, I think it'd be a pain. Good idea on the cucumber. I might try that. Then I could sell them on eBay and pass the curse on. lol.

What about putting some clown loaches in the tank? It seems like I saw somewhere that they would eat the snails? The tank is a 130 gallon w/ 13 fronts (moba & burundi), 2 white calvus, 2 yellow comps, 3 catfish & a pleco.

i got some dwark loaches in my community tank. not sure on the actual species of them.

but they do a great job of keeping my snail count under control. they have not eaten all the snails but they do keep the numbers low

no votes for assasins yet?

With the kind of fish he has, the assassins won't stand a chance surviving them.

Ya, you have some good suggestions. i think the cucumber one will work. That sure is a lot of snails. lol
