Ok so, recently I built my own python style water changing contraption so water changes are nothing now. I just drain the tank out the back door and turn on the faucet for 10 minutes and I'm done. So, I used do a 50% water change every 10 days. Well ever since I built this thing I've been doing them more frequently, say every 3 days. Is it possible to change too much water too often? Would I be able to do a daily 30% water change without harm to the fish? Would there even be a benefit from a 30% water change daily? The tank is a 135 gallon with 2 emporer 400 biowheels on it and the fish are
1 Green Terror
1 Jack Dempsey
1 Green Severum
1 Cyanoguttatum
1 Senegal Bichir
2 Silver Dollars
1 Rubber Lip Pleco
I pay a flat rate for water so I'm not concerned with the water bill but am I really helping my fish doing daily water changes or should I just stick to every 3 - 4 days?

More water changes is good in almost every case. Keep it up!

I thought so, I just wanted to double check.
BTW, you have the best avatar I've ever seen!:headbang2 Reminds me of half the Tampa Bay Area population. Damn morans.

It certainly doesn't hurt to do smaller changes (e.g. 35%) a bit more often; I'll let someone else chime in in regards to every day--I haven't even considered that route. Try keeping a record of the water parameters (amm, nitrite, nitrate) over a month's time, to see what happens before and after you start with more changes. If you reduce the nitrates too much, then you're changing too much. Alot depends on efficacy of filtration, bioload and feeding.

IMO, 50% daily would probably stress fish and your bio-filter. A 25-30% daily would be a nice regiment, if you could keep it up.

I don't know about daily changes but I used to do approx 50% wc's twice weekly with no adverse reactions. Now I do once weekly changes of about 75-80%. I think that works better for me. Just my .02

if you are willing to do them religously, then you could do 100% daily waterchanges and nothing but good would come of it. Your bio filtration will die down to a certain point, but it won't every completely die off. It'll stay around levels where if you forget to a day or two, everything will still be fine.

i doubt you wanna keep up that schedule, but whatever you want to do daily should work perfectly.

I think I'll just do 30% every other day. This only takes 15 - 20 mins and I don't have to worry about the tank having to cycle again. Thanks for all the input!

10% daily W/C is, IMO, much better than one weekly 70% W/C. Fact being that a drastic change in almost any type of parameter can have an adverse affect on your fish.
