First of all Hi. I have had my aquarium up and running for 6 years now. It was first an african cichlid tank with 7 Frontosa which I loved. Long story, but it then became a goldfish aquarium and that was fun and it looked awesome. I just put my goldfish in my 1500 gallon pond and all went well, they love it.

So here is where I stand. I have a 100 gallon aquarium that is 6 foot long and I run two canister filter a Rana XP2 and a Rena XP3 along with a 100 gallon air pump on an air stone.

Last week I put in with my 5 Dojo loaches, one opaline gourami, one rubber nose pleco, one featherfin catfish, and 7 tinfoil barbs.

Before going to the LFS I did do research but not on the tinfoil barbs. I had planed on something else and my mind was changed by the woman at the LFS. She was right and I was happy she changed my mind. However she was also wrong about one little detail the size that these barbs get

. They are small now, but we all know how fast that will change.

So what do you guys think??? Is that too many???

I would see if you could return the tinfoil barbs if I were you. They can get up to 14in. Here is a video of what they look like full grown.

Wow, they do get large don't they.

I have found out that the LFS where I got them from will not take them back with out killing them . They never take fish from home aquariums and mix them in there tanks. If they do take them back then they have to kill them . I could rehome them or give them to this other LFS and they will take them in and not kill them. However, I do like them, so I guess I could grow them out and give some to that other LFS as they get bigger. How many full grown tinfoils would live comfortable in my tank with the rest of my fish???

exact dimensions of the tank would be very helpful. 7 is likely to many long-term. but 3 may work depending on your tanks dimensions. My personal experiance with other barbs, tetras, schooling fish.. is the smaller the group the more aggressive they can be towards tank-mates. So mixing them w/ SA/CA cichlids would make the best tank-mates imo. or larger semi-aggressive fish.

My Tanks size is 6'x18"x18". I really do not want to do the cichlid thing again. I was looking for a tank full of fish that swim and get along with each other. I love the Catfish, Dojo loaches the gourami and I need the pleco. I like how the tinfoils are acting so far and I do love large fish. I just do not want them to be unconfortable. Would 3 full grown tinfoils be to mean for the other fish I have in the tank???

imo 3 would be okay.. but it may be a hit or miss. the gourami imo is the most likely to get hurt long-term

I will watch them like a hawk. I will rehome them all or the gourami if it comes down to one getting hurt.

They are just about two inches now so how much time do I have with them all before the rehoming begins???

Also when it comes time to rehome, I will try to rehome the most aggressive ones first. So maybe I will end up with a few that will be nice and love the gourami.
