Hello.

I havn't had much luck in my general threads about stocking.

Something I am concerned about is if I have too many fish on the bottom.

Tank is 72"x18"x23"

Stock list is 1 Black Ghost Knife, 1 Leopard Ctenopoma, 1 Striped Peacock Eel, 2 Angelfish, 3 Bichirs (Delhezi, Palmas Palmas, Palmas Buettikoferi)
Still not sure on what schoolers we'll have, if any. May just leave them out.

Is there too many fish on the bottom, or could I possibly add more bichirs? I just want to make sure they have enough room and are happy :) Thank you for any and all responses.

Many thanks for the quick response Dr.B!

Any suggestions on what other bichir to add?

I wanted a teugelsi but that was only when I read they got 16"..which still not sure if one of that size would be an okay fit. Now that I know they get bigger I think I'd need a bigger tank?

Seems most of the sens I hear about like to nom tankmates, but I really love the albino ones. I also wouldn't mind a palmas polli.

I hope I'm not too annoying.

Glad to hear that, Mustard. :)

And I fear that what I wrote may not have been clear. When mentioning the ones I'm interested in, I don't mean can I add all of those. Just the amount that is okay to add.

Well I think you should stay with Upper Jaws so any thing UJ except weeksii, teugelsi, and ornate should be fine. That pretty much leaves you with retropinnis, palmas buettikoferi, palmas palmas, palmas polli, mokelembembe, delhezi, and senegalus. If you didn't want to get more of the ones you already had there are still some others that you could add. I think you would like moklembembe they stay small and look nice. I think you'd also like palmas polli they are IME very active and fun to watch. Palmas palmas are one of my favorite polypterus so if I were in your situation I can tell you one of the first things I would do is get another palmas palmas lol. With the tank and the space you have there are a lot of possibilities.

Bang on advice

Oh most certainly was not even thinking of getting any lower jaws XD I know the upper jaws I can get just wanted a recommendation which you have given me, thank you! And glad to know I was right on not getting a teugelsi.

I like all of them! They're gorgeous. I think Buffalo wrote on a thread about a retropinnis and I was like I need to look that up..and then I saw "green zaire" in someone's sig and looked that up before the retro.
They're the same, right? So pretty *-*

Glad to know the palmas polli are active. Or at least yours has been, seems their personalities can differ greatly! I just now realized what IME stands for. :P
I love the look of the palmas palmas. Do you have anything to say about their personality?

Just making sure..I always feel dumb and annoying when asking about these things but I like to be 100%. I can only add one more, right? So choose wisely? XD

Thank you again, so very much. It is really appreciated.

I'd say one or 2, yeah retros and Zaire are the same. I think before the classification retropinnis was created it was referred to as Green Zaire bichir. Like calling a palmas buettokoferri a gold dust. I highly reccomend a gold dust I love mine. Not super active but that makes it more interesting to watch when he is, I had a palmas polli but sold it because it was stealing all the food meant for the other bichirs haha they grow very fast IME

Palmas palmas look amazing, Im totally including one on my next order from JA! You can't really go wrong w/ any of the suggestions Dr. B has given you. Unless you get an unhealthy Senegal from a big box store haha

Also highly recommend Jurassic Aquatics, I've never seen anyone on here have a bad experience w/ them, myself included (got my Goldy from them)

Are palmas buettikoferi and gold dust the same? I had previously thought gold dust was a different coloration of it or something and had been meaning to ask.
I am planning a delhezi, palmas palmas, and palmas buettikoferi for this tank, but was hoping I could add some more to that. I don't even have any yet and they're addicting! Curse you guys! :P

The reason I was thinking of a senegal is because they're cheap..at big box stores anyways. I am wanting to let the other stock grow out before adding any bichirs but I'm like I WANT ONE NOOOW so was thinking of doing that.
I'd rather wait though to make sure I get some that are nice and healthy. I would really love to order from JA.

Thank you for your response btw :3
