I was helping my cousin setup his new tank yesterday and he got a bottle of bacteria called "DrTim's Aquatics One and Only". Apparently its "from the discoverer of Nitrospira" and its beneficial nitrifying bacteria in a bottle. So I read the instructions and at the end it states "Do not overdose". This a total noob question but is it possible to have too much BB in a tank? Btw the bottle is only good up to 60G and the tank is 75G. Thanks in advance.

well look at it like this if you have enough food for 60 people but you try and feed 600 whats going to happen

Well if I was Jesus I could feed 200 ppl with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. LOL j/k I just got back from church. Yeah I see your point though. I was just wondering if it would harm the fish if there was too much bacteria.

Quit sleeping in church brother...
The Late Great JC, fed 5000 not counting women and children...and when everybody had eaten,
the scraps were collected and filled 12 baskets... That was the first miracle feeding.

the second time he did it,
there were 4000, not counting women and children, with 7 loaves and 2 fish and 7 baskets of scraps were left over...;)

sooo back on topic, its not the bacteria but the other stuff in it that you dont wnt to od on. i have heard good things about dr. tims, but i wont pay the absurd prices for all that snake oil

HAHAHAHAHA I went to catholic school from K-8th grade man, its been awhile.

Crass - Yeah it cost $30

IMO its all snakeoil.. never tried dr tims but i keep a massive amount of extra media in my sump to seed new tanks and speed up the cycling process.. you can research that one on yer own...

as for OD on bacteria... if bacteria starve.. they die.. and then they become waste.. and just like all other waste in the tank they become a source of ammonia.. ammonia of course is handled by the bacteria... so no matter how you look at it the tank needs to by cycled.. all details aside.. cycling is balancing bacteria to ammonia...
so if we go ahead and say that dr tim found a way to put magic in a bottle... overdosing on said magic bacteria would be bad...

why i call it magic/snake oil - its eating machines in a sealed bottle.. if the eating machines have nothing to eat they die and eat eachother till theres is nothing left... just my 2 bits

I think this is a silly question. If there is too much bacteria, some will die.
