hey guys,

forgive me if this is a question asked numerous times but,

is there such thing as too much bio-media? my rena xp3 is PACKED with scrubbies, chem stars and bio-spheres that were meant for big ponds.

i even have an additional aquatech H.O.T. filter that has bio-media.

if it is too much, what will be the effects?

thank you

savvy

You really can't have to much bio-media running in your filters. It would just give the beneficial bacteria more places to colonize.

Not really a question of too much.
Your bacterial colony will grow to the size of the available food, plus a bit.
More media will not mean a bigger colony, but it might spread the colonies around.
Your BB will find the areas that give the best food source and oxygen.
That is where the bulk of your BB will thrive.
Will it hurt to have extra “bio media”, no.

i wouldnt say you have too much because that media isnt really designed for canister filters and doesnt have as much surface area as say matrix of substrat pro.

The answer to your question is yes, but only if it restricts GPH from your filter.....................................
