Is 950 gph too much for a 47 gallon (30x18x20 or so)???
I was thinking I could split the outflow into two spray bars and reduce the current enough to not be a whirlpool...what does everyone else think?

I'll have 5 denison barbs, 5 clown loaches, a black ghost knife, and polypterus delhezi. Nothing over 5 inches yet.

I'd rather not buy a new filter for this smaller tank and just use the 2262 if possible...right now its on a 125 that I have to take down for a few years.

I would buy an AC70! That filter would be bigger than the tank! You could find a used filter for 30-40 bucks!

A 2262 isn't going to pump a full 925gph at the best of times, you'll probhably gat at best 2/3 of max flow, or about 600gph. still, it's a heck of a lot more filtration and current for a 47G tank.
If you don't want to buy a new filter, consider how long it's going to be before a 6 watt AC70 would pay for itself with what you'd save on your electricity bill compared to running an 80 watt 2262.

I agree i have 4 AC70's and they dont run up the Bill at all..that is assuming you pay the water bill..but even if you dont it is polite to be midfull of it:naughty:

a 2262 on a 47g tank?

YOUR AWESOME!!!

Howdy,

A 2262 filled with media as per Eheim specs runs about 330 gal/h. I have two. I measured it.

Having said that, that's a whirlpool in a small tank. You could try removing the spray bar and just hanging a sock over the outlet, which would greatly disperse the flow. Or drill dozens of large holes in the spray bar.

Lastly, you could turn your tank into a creek biotope and get Chinese Hillstream loaches.

Wow you're right I didnt realize how much it drops off.
I have a 2260 with a "950gph" pump modded on it.
I measured mine running mech, two layers of sponges, a bunch of substrat, and 2 bags of purigen after not touching the filter for about 4 months (it was pretty dirty inside). Also didnt run it through the spray bar - 200gph

completetely cleaned it and tested with only the mech in the bottom (not very much, it filled it up about 1.5 inches) and got 225 gph

I wonder if the pump is partly burnt out or something? I'd think i should get more than fricken 225 gph thats kind of pathetic. It keeps my tank clear still but imagine how clear itd be with even 500gph. This is disappointing
