I ordered a hydor koralia magnum to up the current i'm my 180. It came as a magnum 8 with a flow rate of 3250 gph. Wasnt sure what that translated into until i stuck it in the tank and fired it up...There goes all the floating plants blasted to bits! Now my question is, is there such thing as too much current? Would it be possible to run the powerhead on a timer just to stir up debris? What do my fellow bichir keepers use for powerheads?

:ROFL::ROFL: that must have been funny to see, thats a hell of a lot of movement in a 180g,ive not got one in mine ive just got an fx5 an xp3 and the bubbles for movement, but i was considering getting one but not as powerful as that .

The only fish that wasn't totally put off was the bala shark. It totally worked as advertised though lol. Lesson learned "Read thoroughly what your planning to buy".

You can easily baffle the current with an in-tank acrylic box or something. I had the same problem in my 20g baby koi quarantine tank yesterday. I hooked up my new sump to it for testing and the koi had to swim hard to hold still! I just pinched a bag under the return and tore a hole in it near the top. Now the incoming current fills the bag hard, but the water gently pours out of a large hole near the surface. I could see a plastic bottle or any number of containers doing this for you.

I know this is off topics but where did you order a magnum 8? I've been looking for a magnun 9 to replace my old water pump from my sump.

Wow a lot of current! I used a 5500lph water pump to empty my 100g 4x2x2 and one time would see what it'd do without a pipe on it and neeedless to say my bichir's quick went backwards! Definatly didnt like it, I've had 1000lph water pumps in to move the water a little and they didn';t mind that
