I am wondering if I have too much current in my tank (180gal.)? Sump pushing 1500gph, 2 AC110"s, and two AC70 powerheads. Most of the time the fish stay toward the bottom. But when I do a water changes I notice they are swimming all over the place. Should I take out the powerheads? Do Fronts mind the current? Thanks

Basically fronts are deep water fish and ideally don't like too much current, but you can try turning the powerheads off for a day and observe if your fronts act differently.

Thanks :D

What biological media is in the sump? Is is a wet dry filter or just a sump? If it's a wet dry sized for a 180 and the bio-chamber is full of media you don't need any other filters in my opinion.

How hard are your fish finning to stay in one place? If it was my tank I don't want my fish to have to use energy just to stay in one place.

I have seen tanks with so much flow that all the tropheus that were in it had to face the same way .. like salmon swimming up stream.

I took out the powerheads and they seem to be swimming around alot more. Thanks for the advice.

i think im havin same prob.
ac110 on a 65gal
i put a plant right infront of the filter
and they swim around more
im gonna put my rocks back in soon

One problem i know about fronts and current is when they are spawning the excess current can blow the males "deposit" away (sorry cant think of the technical term for it, sperm or what ever fish sperm is called). It leads to fertility problems with healthy fertile fish. I have moderate current and just try to deflect the current to certain areas creating low current areas but the stronger current still provides a good oxygen ratio and suface agitation. Im using 3 tetratek 500's on a 265 and nothing else. It works real good and I have no problems, my fronts tended to hug the bottom anyway but still swim in most of the lower half of the tank. I think that is normal for fronts.
