Put some fine emery cloth around a piece of rod and clean it a little. That is pretty normal.

If there is a chunk missing then your impeller might not be balance when it's spinning. That might cause the motor to make loud noise. If I were you I would get another pump.

This is what I thought might be going on with your quiet one 6000 in your other thread. Mine bubbled and cracked just like that so I honed it out with sand paper wrapped around a socket. Then I put jb weld over the cracks hand then sanded it smooth. Worked like a charm. That is a pretty big chunk missing though. Worth a try to fix it though.

Just get a new pump...not because of the damage to the Mag 24, but because of the cost of running it. Those things are power hogs.

Mag 24 does 1,700GPH @ 6' head on 265 watts (cost to run per year: $252)
Laguna Max Flo 2400 does 1,664GPH @ 6' head on only 84 watts (cost to run per year: $80)

Over the first year, running the Laguna is going to save you $172 in electricity costs (assuming you pay the national average of $0.11/KWHr). In other words, the new pump is going to pay for itself in the first year of operation.

I agree with this option.

The laguna is powerful, silent and not a power hog.

Good advice aldiaz33. I paid $178 shipped for my Laguna Max Flo 2400. I can't wait to fire that bad boy up.

I don't run heaters because of my 2 Mag18's. I have to run a fan over the sump in the summer.
