I don't think there is such a thing, but let me know if I am going overboard. I have a 180 with an FX5 and Wet/dry filter (rated for 175). I was thinking about adding an AC110. Unnecessary? In terms of fish I have a JD, GT, Mayan, Clown Knife, catfish and clown loach. The cichlids are 5"-7" and the CK is about 12".

Let's just say that you certainly won't have to change the water as much as I do.

Dang man, you are turning that water over a lot.

I don't know if you can ever over filter. Is the water turbulent from the returns? Sounds like a wave tank.

I'm sure your fish appreciate you for it.

The AC110 isn't necessary but I always have extra filters running so when I add a new tank to the room, it cycles that much quicker.

I'm doing water changes once a week. The fish seem to like it. The AC110 is probably over the top, I've heard a lot of good things about it so I thought it couldn't hurt.

I'm running dual AC110's in a 75 gallon, a little breezy for my taste, but I won't ever need to worry about overloading the filtration, and if one dies, there's a backup.

As long as there isn't too much current for your fish to handle, more filtration never hurts. Just depends on the fish.

The amount of filtration has nothing to do with how often you need to do water changes. Your filters are there to clean the water with mech filtration which removes floating debris and for bio filtration. All bio filtration does is provide and area for ammonia and nitrIte to get converted to nitrAte. You need to do water changes to remove nitrAtes and other dissolved organic waste that cant be removed by the filters themselves, unless you use other products like Chemi-Pure, Purigen or some other type of chemical filter media.

Yeah, what he said....Dang man, you didn't have to show me up like that in public;) Just kidding.

IMO, add the AC. I love over filtering my tanks. Makes your feel real GOOD. Hope you add it. :)
