Too Much Filtration?

When i was reading up on my tropheus it suggests over filtration! I know they love clean water which is why I am wondering if I could add more filtration but they also dont like too much current.Since I had a 330gph regent and i thought I could over filter a little better than that so i added a 145 regent from and old 29. And i definetly dont think that is too much but i have an extra 280 Bio Wheel and would rather have that on my 55 tropheus! Is a 330gph filter and a 280 gph too much filtertration for my tropheus? Or is a combined 610gph ok for my 55? Man thats a lot! Right now the 145gph isnt making too much surface circulation!

So is 610gph too much for a 55 with tropheus?(tropheus being the key part!)

If you have it laying around try it on the tank and see if it is causing too much currents. Honestly I get annoyed at how little current my big filters seem to cause. (Even the Fx5 wasn't as powerful as I thought it would be.)

Of course the problem with HOB is that you are going to have a stronger current in a local area and next to nothing on the other part of the tank.

Anyways like I said just put in on if suddenly it looks like it is pushing your fish to the walls take it off. It wont hurt for a little bit of time.

never! your turnover is just under 6x/hr. all my tanks are at least 7x/hr
for ex:
150g=1050gph
29=200gph
when i got the 55=350gph

I have in line flow meters on our canisters including a couple of fx5's. I read a lot about disapointing flow rates but I seriously doubt you even know that flow rate is...The FX5 uses 1" hosing,,,thats twice the size of most of the other canisters out there. smaller hose = higher velosity but a lower over all flow rate. Canisters also need to actully FILTER the water so that has an effect as well. If you want nothing more than water movement then pick up a huge power head or two and blast away...

In general when you read about overfiltration they are talking about something on the order of 10 times the tank volume per hour..on a 55 gallon tank that would be 550 gph...but you have to add 50% because the rated flow rates of all filters are a bit on the high side. (measured empty to get a larger number.) that would give you a target figure of 775 gph.

i didnt think you could get to clean water...?
