Bare bottom, going to have an extra 60 gallon sump for filtration - barred midas, tiger oscar, tapajos red pike cichlid, some sort of target fish such as red hook silver dollars, dull eyed royal pleco.

Lots of driftwood for line of sight breaks.

I figure the midas will either destroy the tank or the oscar will make him come to an understanding and they'll live and let live...I don't see the pike being an issue as fish generally ignore other fish that don't have a similar body shape unless they're guarding eggs.

Any thoughts?

I think either the Midas will destroy the tank OR it will be a mesh of unconventional Metro bliss;)

Pretty much what I figured - I'm going to introduce the oscar and midas together, for the record the midas is much younger, probably around 7 months of age and at around 7-8" in length while the tiger oscar is probably a good 2 years old and 13" long, so it might help the midas come to terms with life.

I'm still debating on adding the pike - and may just settle for putting a 12" lap. bichir in instead, since cichlids absolutely ignore them.

25 views and one comment, I'm gonna guess that my opinion on the matter is the same opinion anyone with any experience in the hobby would have...50/50 chance or better, let's get some odds running here...bets!

depends if the oscar is a puss or not. hah ive had way smaller fish mess bigger ones up my oscar is a wimp he gets bullied by 2 jags about half his size oscar is 5" and the pike might just be the king good luck with it

Barred Midas will have the tank to Himself one day, when He takes everyone else out

*looks for saxophone to play tapps on for the pretty tapajos pike*

Should work short term though. The neat thing about pikes is the fact it's very easy to create caves the barred midas can't enter, so even if the midas gets too pushy, you shouldn't lose your pike.

+1. Introducing the young midas & older oscar is a good idea that will hopefully up your chances for success. I didn't know you had a Lap, cool- how big? I'm diggin' the lap idea moreso than the pike- a little change-up, you know?

Did you ever find yourself a local source for red hooks at a decent price? If not, PM me & I can grab some for you. 2-3 inchers only though.

I thought you were setting up a 120g next...

Like anything else, depends on the fish. I had an albino tiger O that regularly beat the crap out of my male midas and female jag. Gave him to a friend and he can't clean the tank without getting bitten. It could work especially since the O is bigger/older.

Good luck to you, yeah I'd say anything could happen and it's up to your fish to decide. I've got the same footprint tank and I'm trying the same thing with a young Midas and older GT. My hopes aren't up too high, I guess you have to be ready at any time to switch fish around.
