I am picking up a standard 150g (72X18X29) in the next week and upgrading from my 90g. Currently I have two oscars, one 5" and one 7", and a 4-5" pleco. If I move those three fish over to the 150 will I be able to safely add 2 red/gold severums and possibly an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey down the road? I want to make sure this will be suitable permanently for the life of the fish before I do it. I am filtered with 2 Eheim Pro II 2028 filters and do at least two 10-15% water changes weekly to pick up the waste off the sand and one larger water change on Sundays for water quality control. Thanks in advance for the advice.

You can add 5 of each and you should be good. I like the WC schedual. Keep it up:D.

thanks. my wife thinks i spend too much time on the tank but she's learned to deal with it. i can get them knocked out in about 10-15 mins with the python hooked up.

should be no problem. I would increase the water change amount though.

10-15% per week won't be enough as the fish get big.

I do about 30% each week on my 150g.

i do 10-15% during the week just to control the poo on the bottom. on Sundays i usually do a 25-30%. haven't had any nitrate issues yet, but like you said they are still relatively small.

so do you think 2 oscars, 2 severums, an ebjd, pleco, and 2-3 clown loaches is still ok to house in a 150 with that filtration permanently? that's 9 fish that get fairly large.

should be okay. "huge" in a 150g is relative.

eg. a 12" oscar in a 150 is a lot different than a 12" oscar in a 55g..

none of your fish get much bigger than 12", and some like the severums, average around 8, so you can put a fair number of them in a tank that size, provided you keep up with the water changes..and that everyone gets along.

compatibility issues are probably more of a concern than the tank size IMO.

watch the nasty oscars and jd with the more peaceful severums..

this stock sounds great i think you will be fine if you want too really bump it up add an fx5 and you could put in a bunch more :grinno:

Ya... I'm running a 150 with 7 cichlid, 8" Oscar X2 and 2 arowana.. with 4 pleco (5-10")
And still i can probably add 1 more pleco no problem...

Just make sure u have enough filter for it...
