What's a good way to get rid of 300-400 convicts? 2 are big 350 or so are very small. Im just trying to figure out how to get them out of my big tank.... syphon maybe? Any experienced fry catchers please let me know what method works best. I can't really get to the bottom of my tank with a net well. In case anyone is interested why, its because they are little punks and i'm sick of watching their territory expand violently with all these mini future punks. The other fish need a break and they deserve a tank to themselves for them and all the products of their excessive fornication. Any advice would be appreciated.

all of your other fish would like them as snacks, but waht relly are you asking? are you merely looking for a method to get them out of the breeder tank? If so siphon will work if they are still fry, netting wil work if they are larger, with that many in ther you should be able to get several in one swoop.

or you can take out the parents and put them in a temporary container, then put in one of your depseys and wait for it to devour the lot. Then put everyone back where they came from.

I'd lower the water level a lot so they have fewer places to go. Remove any larger decorations and then they can't hide much, either. As you swoosh a large net back and forth through the tank in pursuit, they will panic and swim into the open in desperation, falling into your net.

Thanks Yogurt/Knifegill. I can get the big guys with the net first. I'm pretty sure they will actually attack the net so they should be easy. I just wondered if there were any adverse effects of syphoning the fry. Even though it's not a big deal I wanted to try to keep the family together entirely. I thought that the syphon could possibly jack up the little ones so I was wondering if anyone else may have any clever maybe more effective/easy methods for catching such tiny fish in a 220. Some kind of breeder trick or something. If not than no big deal, syphon it is. Thanks again guys.

if they are still fry, then a siphon is your best bet, not like a python system or anything but jsut good ol' plastic hose going into a bucket and then acclimate them to the other tank, one trick is to turn out all the lights so they think its night time and will gather together into a ball and then turn on dim light and you can siphon them more easily this way as they will all be huddled together, but most likely you still wont get all of them, the stragglers will just either be eaten or get lucky and survive and you can just net them out when they are larger

Throw a few cichla in there...;)

i would say siphon or a saw this as a fish trap on monster fish rescues you tube vids
